I actually found picking out this season’s winner of the Colonel Dick Cleghorn Award - and its associated case of fine claret - very difficult. We have had such an action-packed season and there have been so many good performances. As you may recall, Robin and I started our respective awards at the end of last season, with the intention of recognising and honouring the Regiment on the other side that had impressed us the most over the year.
However in the end I have chosen a regiment for which I have had the greatest regard for a long number of years. A regiment which, if truth be told, provided me with much of the inspiration to start my own reforms within the Royalist Armie. They combine everything that I regard as making a Sealed Knot regiment truly great. They fight extremely well - very hard but fair; they are committed to accurate drill, dress and weaponry to the very highest level; they have a fantastic camaraderie and team spirit - every man pulls together for the benefit of the Regiment as a whole. They are a regiment that is held in the highest regard by every regiment in my own Armie. They are winners, whose fighting spirit is never dimmed.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the winner of the Col. Dick Cleghorn Award 2002 goes to the Blew Regiment.
Gentlemen, I salute you. Well done!
God Save the King
