Member Profile: Liz Morgan

Age: A tad older than the two decades plus that I have been in the Knot...

Sex: Depends who’s offering...!

Occupation: Community Development Tutor for the Ruskin College, Oxford, and part-time trainer for the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Where do you live? North Oxfordshire

Regimental Role: Editor of the Trayned Soldier, the Regiments bi-monthly Magazine.

Why did you join the Blew Regiment?: When I first joined the Knot I was a Royalist, and joined Sir Arthur Lord Capel’s Regiment which was based in Hertfordshire and London. They were very family-orientated and looked after me while I was still very young, very green and learning the Sealed Knot‘ropes’, for which I was very grateful. I later transferred to Prince Rupert’s Blew Regiment of Foote to be with friends that I had met in the Knot. One fateful day 6 years’ ago I met ‘G’ in the beertent, married him a year later and became a ‘turncoat’ by transferring to the London Trayned Bandes Blew Regiment of Foote. Some of my Royalist friends still haven't forgiven me!

What do you like about the regiment / Sealed Knot: When I first joined the SK I was completely spell-bound by the colour and the drama, and the amazing ability to be able to meet so many people from so many different backgrounds. Having come straight from boarding school it was a real revelation and although it might sound corny, the SK taught me a great deal about people and life. The things I love most about our Regiment is the members’ skill in generating gales of laughter whenever they come together and their open-minded friendliness and affection. Like a large family, really and everyone has something to contribute.

What you dislike about the regiment / Sealed Knot: The politics and the power struggles. Having said that, the flip-side of that coin is that those who do not have very fulfilling jobs in ‘real’ life can often gain satisfaction from hierarchical roles in the Knot, which in some cases, is a positive thing.

Advice for new / prospective members: Just join! It’s an experience like no other........
