Member Profile: Lyn Johnson

Name: Lyn Johnson

Age: 34

Sex: Not any more, I'm married!

Job title: Purchase Ledger Supervisor

Area where you live: Wolverhampton for the last 5 years – lived in East Kent for the 29 years before that.

Regimental Nickname: Mrs Sam

Regimental Role: Treasurer & Camp Follower or Musketeer (when the mood takes me).

Why did I join? and why the Blews??? I tend to enjoy unusual hobbies and was looking to join the SK (I had contact details for Saye & Seles) when I met Mike while restoring a canal in Bude. He persuaded me to join Blews instead - even driving to Sandwich from Wolverhampton to make sure that the joining form didn't get lost in the post (- at least that's his story).

What do I like about the Regiment/Sealed Knot? I love being a Blew - even though we all come from so many different backgrounds and are such a varied group of people, we all get on really well and enjoy each others company. When I first joined I was quite nervous as Sam - sorry, Mike - had been in the Regiment for ever and I wasn't sure how people would take to me, but everyone was great & I settled in really quickly (the Port probably helped!). I absolutely love the battles - the adrenaline gets going and there is a definite high in following a block and watching them slaughter the Royalists. As a follower you are very exposed on the field, but once the battle starts you really don't notice. Four years ago I passed my Musket test and fought Musket for a couple of years but to be honest, I prefer following.............

What do I dislike about the Regiment/Sealed Knot? Mostly the politics, the whinging and the people who are in it for the wrong reason and forget it is a hobby and therefore FUN.

Anything else? If you are not sure whether or not to come along - DO - it really is the most fun you can have in one weekend, even when it pours with rain. Don't let other people influence your decisions - you can be a follower, pikeman or musketeer whether you are male or female. Most important of all though, enjoy it!
