Arbury Hall, Warks 19th - 20th June, 1999
The second Regimental event of the calendar. Going through the vast grounds of the Hall, I don't think I was the only one that said "at last, space and lots of it". What a let down when we finally got to the Association site. We quickly absorbed the ring road into our camping space, and nabbed yet more when some enterprising stranger in another regiment, moved the perimeter fenceline.
The battles were standard affairs, the Association performed well and the Regiment played its part. It was noted by other officers outside of my Regiment, that our Musket Company were making a good impression. Dividends paying up, I feel, for the two Tilbury Fort training weekends the Musket Company organised before the season. Standards of drill and dress have vastly improved from last season, and dare I say it, overtaken those same standards in the Pike Company . Nothing like a bit of inter-Regiment rivalry to step up the pace a little.
This weekend will probably be noted in the fading memories of future years as one of the better socials. With great distances to travel before you escaped the Hall grounds, it was a night spent on the campsite. Again, the membership made the best they could, romped off to the beer tent, and danced and drank the night away. Many a funny tale for the future, and plenty of headaches in the morning, all cleared away with a lovely spot of drill.
All in all, a good weekend, taken at a steady pace. A good location, it was a pity we seemed to use so little of it.
